Hello, long lost community!

I have recently been focusing in on snowflake-making again, and it was suggested to me that I try gold (or other metal) leafing some of these to make them a little more elegant and to turn them into something brilliant! (I'd love to see a Dalek snowflake copper-gilded!)  Any thoughts on the matter?

I have also been looking into purchasing a die-cutting machine and scanning my snowflakes, turning them into Vector images, then cutting them out of other materials so it would allow me to etch them onto ornaments, metal, what have you...I think it'd be really neat to try it.  What would you like to see them on?

Happy (upcoming) holidays or feast days followed by running all the calories off days!

My Shop is back open!  www.etsy.com/shop/TheRasa

I have 22 snowflakes posted for sale right now, and plenty more coming!  I will also be taking suggestions for further subjects of my snowflakes.

For instance, my next projects will be surrounding the Justice League Unlimited and Lovecraftian symbols/creatures.  What would you like to see as a snowflake?

I will also be doing some snowflakes on colored/textured paper to shake things up a bit, and to avoid using lined paper from now on.

Hope to see you there!

Kickstarter...?

1 min read
Well, I've just submitted a proposal to Kickstarter.com so that I can buy a digital die-cutting machine and create prints of all of my snowflakes!  I'm eagerly awaiting a reply from them, and if approved, I'll let you know the moment you can start donating. (Also, on Kickstarter, every donation gets a reward, such as a print of a snowflake, and perhaps even a commissioned snowflake, designed just for you!)

So in making all of these snowflakes, I realized that I've never seriously explored the extensive use of Xacto knives in making them.  In fact, all but one of the snowflakes posted thus far were made using only scissors. (And some scotch tape if they started to fall apart at all.)

I finished my first snowflake using only an Xacto knife last night, and it turned out fairly well, though I did manage to cut myself in the process.

Since I have very little experience using these tools to cut several layers of paper at a time (The paper being folded into sixths for the snowflake) does anyone have any tips they could give me on using Xacto knives?  I could really use some pointers to get better consistency and sharper edges.

Thanks!!!! :D
